How to Transfer Snapchat Memories to a New Phone

Last updated October 2026 · Free · Works in any browser

Good news first: Snapchat Memories are tied to your account, not your phone. Sign in on a brand-new device and they're all still there. The catch is that they only exist inside Snapchat — nothing lands in the new phone's gallery, and if you ever lose access to the account, you lose the only copy. Here's how to do both halves of a real transfer: get Memories showing on the new phone, and get them onto the new phone as ordinary photos and videos.

Step 1 — Sign in on the new phone

Install Snapchat, log in with your username and password, and open Memories (swipe up from the camera). Your full archive loads from Snapchat's servers — every saved Memory, in date order. If you use My Eyes Only, it needs your passcode on the new device before it unlocks.

If Memories look incomplete after logging in, give it time and a stable connection — the grid populates progressively, and explore stories can lag behind personal Memories while everything syncs.

Step 2 — Get a full copy out of Snapchat

Memories inside Snapchat aren't a backup — they're the only copy Snapchat holds for you. To own the files yourself, request your data: sign in at accounts.snapchat.com, open My Data, and submit a request with Memories included. Snapchat emails you a ZIP when it's ready — anywhere from minutes to a day for larger accounts. The detailed walkthrough is in how to export Snapchat Memories.

Do this while the old phone still works. The request runs from any browser, but verifying the result is easier on a device where you can open Snapchat and spot-check dates against what you remember.

Step 3 — Turn the ZIP into gallery-ready files

Snapchat's export is a metadata archive, not an album: files come out with machine names, wrong-or-missing dates, and long videos split into multiple MP4 parts. Drop the ZIP into Snapkeep and it converts everything in your browser — nothing is uploaded — into clean, dated photos and videos with the capture date written into each file, sorted into year folders.

Step 4 — Move the files onto the new phone

Because the converted files carry real capture dates, Google Photos or Apple Photos on the new phone files them under the day they were actually taken — the timeline survives the move intact.

Questions people ask

Do Snapchat Memories automatically transfer to a new phone?

They follow your account — log in on the new phone and they appear inside Snapchat. What doesn't transfer is anything saved to the old phone's camera roll, and Memories never land in the new phone's gallery on their own.

Can I transfer Memories without a computer?

Yes. Snapkeep runs in the phone's browser, and the converted files can be saved straight to the device. For very large archives a computer is faster, but it isn't required.

Will my Memories transfer if I have a new phone number?

Memories are tied to the account, not the SIM. Log in with your username and password and they're there. Update your verified email and number in settings while you're at it — that's what protects the account (and the Memories) if you lose access.

What about transferring to a new account?

Snapchat has no Memories transfer between accounts. The practical route is the same as above: export from the old account, convert to files, and keep them in your gallery rather than inside the new account.
